11.   Read the legend of the wishing bell!

 Once upon a time there lived a young widow in the castle of Bled. Her husband was killed by robbers and his body was thrown into the lake. She was so inconsolable that she gathered all her gold and silver and cast a bell for the chapel on the island, in memory to her husband. But the bell didn’t arrive there. The bell, the boat and boatmen sank during a terrible storm. The desperate widow sold all her property after this accident. She offered the proceeds for the construction of a new church on the island. She left Bled and lived the rest of her life in Rome as a nun. After her death the Pope had heard of her misfortune and of her good deeds during her life as a nun, so in memory to her he decide to make a new bell. He said that anyone that rings the bell three times and believes in God, his or her wish would come true. Even today sometimes, on a dark night you can hear the sunken bell ringing from the depths of the lake.

Die Legende besagt, dass im Bleder Schloss die schöne Witwe lebte und ihren, von Räubern ermordeten Ehemann betrauerte. Sie sammelte ihr ganzes Gold und Silber und ließ ein Glöckchen für die Kapelle auf der Insel gießen. Als das Glöckchen auf die Insel hinübergeschafft werden sollte, kenterte das Boot in einem mächtigen Sturm, das Glöckchen sank und die Bootsbesatzung ertrank. Noch heute höre man in ruhigen und klaren Nächten dessen Läuten aus der Tiefe des Sees. Die junge Witwe aber wurde noch trauriger. Sie brach auf nach Rom, wo sie einem Klosterorden beitrat. Nach Ihrem Tode übersandte der Papst eine neue Glocke für die Inselkirche. Wer sie Maria zu Ehren läutet, dem geht ein Wunsch in Erfüllung.

Tako imenovani »zvonček želja« je leta 1534 vlil Franziskusu Patavinus v italijanski Padovi. Nekako v tem času je na blejskem gradu živela mlada, neutolažljiva vdova. Moža so ji ubili razbojniki in njegovo truplo vrgli v jezero. Zbrala je vse svoje srebro in zlato ter dala vliti zvonček za kapelo na otoku.Vendar tja ni prispel. Hud vihar ga je potopil z ladjico in čolnarji vred.  Še dandanes pa se včasih v jasnih nočeh oglaša iz globin.Obupana vdova je po tej nesreči prodala vse svoje imetje, izkupiček darovala za novo cerkev na otoku, sama pa stopila v samostan v Rimu. Tam je pobožno živela do smrti. Po njeni smrti je papež posvetil nov zvon in ga poslal na blejski otok. Kdor s tem zvonom pozvoni in svojo željo sporoči usmiljeni »gospe z jezera« se mu želja izpolni.Tako pripoveduje legenda, ki vključuje mednarodno sago o »potopljenem« zvonu in idealiziran zgodovinski nastanek »zvončka želja.
