Slovenia is connected with the Mediterranean by only 46.6 km of coast in Trieste Bay. This stretch of coast is scattered with old towns such as Koper, Izola and Piran, which for centuries were the only local urban centres.

RIVERS IN SLOVENIA
Slovenia
is
a country rich in water resources. Rainfall during an average year amounts to 1.500 mm.
The river Sava is a river in
Southeast Europe, a right side
tributary of the Danube river
at Belgrade.Counting from Zelenci, the source
of Sava Dolinka, it is 947
kilometers long. It belongs to the
Black Sea drainage basin and it is
the 16th longest European river.
The
river Soča
is a 140 km long river
that
flows through western Slovenia
and
northeastern Italy. An Alpine
river
in character, its source lies in
the
Julian Alps in Slovenia. The river
runs
past Slovenia’s highest peak,
Triglav
(2,864m) before heading
south and entering the
Adriatic Sea.
The river Drava
flows through the
southern parts of Central Europe.
It links five countries on
its 725 km
course from the Italian Alps to
its
confluence with the Danube.
The
first short stretch lies in Italy,
then
the Drava flows across Austria
and
Slovenia into Croatia .
The river Kamniška
Bistrica is
an Alpine river
in northern Slovenia.
It springs from
the
Kamnik Alps, near the border
with Austria.
It is 33 km long and it
flows through the town of
Kamnik. It
flows into
Sava river 10 km east of
Ljubljana,
Slovene capital.
The river Nevljica comes under
Kozjak and it flows through Tuhinj
Valley. Bones of an iceage mammoth
were found near this river. Many
foreign researchers came and
helped the excavations. Today, the
mammoth skeleton can be seen in
Slovenian Natural History museum
in Ljubljana.
